The Icarus Tree was commissioned by the think-tank, Demos as part of the ‘Glasgow 2020’ project. This was established to look at the city of Glasgow in terms of empowered citizenship, imagination and the future. The story was based on the famous fable of Icarus, which is basically a warning against human hubris and specifically on the painting, The Fall of Icarus by Pieter Brueghel. (1558).
